time will change the way i feel about you // 11 August 2003

richard x vs kelis "finest dreams" is very possibly the musical highlight of my summer. it's the epitome of groovalicious. go out and buy, support the hairy ones!

peckham multiplex has recently introduced an all day everyday ticket price of £2.99 (hurrah! although i'm worried that this may mean it's closing soon, boo!) and to celebrate this, myself and meg went to have a little filmfest. now, considering it's the height of summer, you'd expect a plethora of choice, but no, there were only 2 films out of the 10-odd films showing that we wanted to see. first up, pirates of the caribbean: the curse of the black pearl which i secretly wanted to see. the secretly part because it's a pirate film for god's sake! the word swashbuckling in a review is enough to keep me 10 feet away. for all the rave reviews, i found that it didn't quite live up to it's promise. johnny depp is absolutely excellent, if you need one reason to see this film, it's for his performance as the ozzy/keith richards-esque jack sparrow. orlando bloom yet again confounds me with his lack of outstanding talent in the acting department. he's ohsopretty, but seems to have come from the daniel radcliffe school of acting. as hollywood blockbusters go, this is definately one of the better ones. entertaining but in need of some strict editing. (which is pretty much my attitude towards harry potter & the order of the phoenix but that's another rant for another day)

next up was one of the many sequels this summer, legally blonde 2: red, white & blonde. now, i'm not a rabid fan of the original but i did enjoy it, in anyone else's hands but reese witherspoon, it would have been an unoffensive, unremarkable film. despite pirates of the caribbean being the better film out of the two, i enjoyed legally blonde 2 more. it was short, sweet and intensely silly. if you liked the first one, it's pretty much more of the same.

despite my filmfest, it's tv that floats my boat. i say it with pride, i am a tv addict! and this week has been televisual heaven for me. first off, fox have been running a promotion on their boxsets. the first seasons of their tv shows (buffy, angel, nypd, simpsons, futurama etc) are now supercheap. so imagine my delight when i stumbled upon both futurama & buffy for only £19.99 in whsmith! for some reason, i only bought buffy and neglected futurama (much like fox & channel 4, the fools!). so this weekend, i have been having a buffyfest of the highest quality. i've also been revisiting my season 1 crush on xander and rejoicing at the quality xander/willow screentime.

and today, i continued my tv marathon with the highly underrated teachers. i know that simon (andrew lincoln) was many viewers favourite but my favourites were brian and kurt, so i'm not feeling the loss too much in the current series on channel 4. however, i am seriously missing susan, bring back susan i say! and in the meantime, i will comfort myself with the outrageously attractive matt.

capping off my tvathon, was the finale of 24. i was pretty bored for the first 40 minutes, if only because it was pretty obvious what was going to happen but then, the last 5 minutes...and then the thunk thunk thunk 8.00...ohmygodicantwaitforthethirdworstdayofjackslife!
